Sonia Gandhi was born at Antonia Edvige Albina Maino of Italy on 9th December 1946. Sonia turns into 67th year of age. She is an Italian-born Indian politician and the President of the Indian National Congress, one of the major political parties of India. Manmohan Singh, charismatic economist and leader

Manmohan Singh, born on 26th September 1932, is the 13th and current Prime Minister of India. A renowned economist, he is the only Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to return to power after completing a full five-year term, and the first Sikh to hold the office. He born in Gah, now in Punjab of Pakistan in 1932. Singh's family migrated to India during its partition in 1947. After obtaining his doctorate in economics from Oxford, Singh worked for the United Nations in 1966–69.  He subsequently began his bureaucratic career when Lalit Narayan Mishra hired him as an advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Trade. Over the 70s and 80s, Singh held several key posts in the Government of India, such as Chief Economic Advisor (1972–76), Reserve Bank Governor (1982–85) and Planning Commission head (1985–87). India to earn USD 5b per year from film industry by 2014

Film Industry plays an important role in Indian Economy. The Indian film industry is the largest in the world, with more than 1,000 films produced every year in more than 20 languages.  The Indian film industry is projected to grow from US$3.2 billion in 2010 to US$5 billion by 2014 at a CAGR of 14.1%. Growth is expected to come from the expansion of multiplexes in smaller cities, investments by foreign studios in domestic and regional productions, the growing popularity of niche movies and the emergence of digital and ancillary revenue streams. Canada to depart from Kyoto Protocol

Canada will formally withdraw its stand from the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, the country's minister of the environment Peter Kent has said, making it the first nation to pull out of the global treaty.  The protocol "does not represent a way forward for Canada" and would have forced it to take "radical and irresponsible choices", Mr. Kent said in Toronto on Monday. He added that it was a mistake for Canada to have signed up for Kyoto: "As we have said, Kyoto for Canada is in the past ... We are invoking our legal right to formally withdraw from Kyoto." "The Kyoto protocol does not cover the world's two largest emitters, China and the US, and therefore cannot work," he said. 89 died in Indian Hospital fire

At least 89 killed so far in the massive fire at AMRI private hospital in Kolkata, at West Bengal of India.  Nearly, 160 patients were admitted in the Hopital, The Times Of India said quoting hospital sources.  Additional director general, Fire Services, D Biswas was quoted as saying that patients who died were admitted in the critical care and orthopaedic units and were unable to move.  The private nursing home said a "sudden fire was detected in the basement" of an annex around 3:30am. Among the dead, there are 70 patients and three staff of the multi-storeyed private hospital which turned into a towering inferno in the early morning. The bodies of the other victims are being identified. The fire spread fast from the basement of the hospital, engulfing one ward after the other and trapping hundreds of people. India tortures Bangladeshi nationals at Indian frontier

Two Bangladeshi cattle traders, who were tortured and left unconscious by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in border areas of the district's sadar upazila, are fighting for life at Satkhira Sadar Hospital. Of the two, Rafiqul Islam, 35, is from Sultanpur of Satkhira town and Fazlur Rahman, 45, from Mahmudur village of sadar upazila. On Thursday night (January 20, 2011), the BSF men of Kaijuri camp caught Rafiqul when he and a group of fellow traders were returning to Bangladesh with cattle through Kaijuri-Baikari border, locals said. Rafiqul was beaten up and left inside Bangladesh territory around 3:30am yesterday. Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) of Baikari camp sent him to the hospital. In another incident the same night, the BSF men of Panitor camp caught Fazlur, as he and some other traders were coming to Bangladesh through Panitor-Gazipur border. 23 killed in the last 72 hours in Indian-Kashmir as violences spread in new areas

At least five protesters have been shot dead by police on Wednesday leading  the death toll to 23 number of people in the last three days as violence in Indian-administered Kashmir spreads to new areas. The fatal shooting on Wednesday came as the Indian government held crisis talks in New Delhi to tackle the escalating unrest. Officials said police fired on an angry crowd in the previously quiet town of Mendhar, a Muslim settlement in a Hindu-dominated area to the southwest of Kashmir, 210km from the town of Jammu. "Four youths have been killed in the firing and several government buildings  were attacked and burnt down by the angry protesters," Pawan Kotwal, a top local government official, told reporters. Another death was reported by local police in the volatile northern town of Sopore, where police shot a 24-year-old man.
