Indian border guards Border Security Forces (BSF) have shot dead a Bangladeshi youth at Hatibandha Upazila under Lalmonirhat District of Bangladesh today (December 25, 2010). Witnesses said Saifur Rahman, 22, a cattle trader and resident of Dakkhin Gotamari village at the Upazila fell victim to BSF firing while returning home from India around 6.30am on Friday. Over 900 Bangladeshi nationals have been killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) over the last decade, Human Rights Watch said in a report released on December 9, 2010. Human Rights Watch found no evidence in any death it documented that the person was engaged in any activity that would justify such an extreme response by BSF, the report added. It is revealed that in several cases they found that Bangladeshi nationals were injured or killed due to indiscriminate firing from across the border. For instance, 13-year-old Abdur Rakib was shot as he was grazing his buffaloes near the border when a soldier opened fire. Another boy, Mohammad Omar Faruq, age 15, was injured.
